Our Team
Lingeman & Smith Medical is a small, senior engineering team built to solve complex medical device problems efficiently.
Collectively, our team covers the full medical device development lifecycle—from early concept and prototyping through manufacturing scale-up, quality systems, and post-market sustainment. While our work often spans multiple disciplines, each member of our team brings deep subject-matter expertise in key areas of medical device development.
We work hands-on with our clients, remain closely involved throughout each engagement, and take personal ownership of the outcomes. Our size allows us to move quickly, stay technically engaged, and maintain continuity from problem definition through execution.
John Lingeman, MBA
Managing Partner | Principal Engineering & Strategy
-
John is a medical device engineer and strategic technical leader with more than 20 years of experience guiding products from early concept through commercialization. His background spans system-level design, manufacturing integration, and quality systems, with a career rooted in minimally invasive and single-use medical technologies.
Prior to co-founding Lingeman & Smith Medical, John was a key contributor within Boston Scientific’s Urology Stone Management R&D organization, supporting the development and commercialization of advanced endoscopic and stone-management technologies.
At LSM, John serves as a principal engineer and strategic partner to clients. He specializes in framing complex technical problems, aligning development decisions with regulatory and manufacturing realities, and helping teams focus effort where it delivers the greatest impact. His work often sits at the intersection of engineering, quality, and business—ensuring that design intent, risk management, and execution remain tightly connected throughout development.
Jeff Smith
Managing Partner | Principal Engineering
-
Jeff brings more than 30 years of experience developing and commercializing medical device technologies, with over 30 products successfully launched across multiple device categories and clinical applications, and is the author or co-author of numerous issued patents.
Prior to co-founding Lingeman & Smith Medical, Jeff spent many years at Boston Scientific, where he founded and led an R&D prototype laboratory supporting cutting edge urology and stone-management programs. In this role, he built the capabilities and infrastructure needed to rapidly translate early design concepts into functional, production-representative prototypes, enabling faster iteration and earlier identification of technical and manufacturing risk.
At LSM, Jeff leads principal engineering efforts with a focus on translating complex design concepts into robust, manufacturable solutions. His hands-on expertise spans CNC machining and programming, plastic part and mold design, laser and ultrasonic welding, EDM, and advanced additive manufacturing. Jeff is known for his ability to rapidly prototype, iterate, and de-risk designs—particularly for single-use endoscopic and minimally invasive devices where manufacturability and cost sensitivity are critical. His manufacturing-first approach allows LSM to identify potential failure modes early, shorten development cycles, and deliver designs that scale cleanly into production.
Christopher Green
Senior Engineer | Quality Systems, Design Assurance & Applied Automation
-
Chris is a senior engineer with more than 15 years of experience across design quality assurance, risk management, test method development, and lifecycle management for Class II and III medical devices. His background includes work across urology, endoscopy, orthopedics, cardiovascular, and women’s health devices, supporting both new product development and in-market sustainment efforts.
Prior to joining Lingeman & Smith Medical, Chris held engineering and quality roles supporting medical device programs at Boston Scientific, Cook Medical, Johnson & Johnson, and DePuy Mitek. Across these organizations, he worked closely with R&D, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to support product development, verification, and lifecycle management activities.
At LSM, Chris serves as a subject-matter expert in quality systems and design assurance, helping clients navigate regulatory and documentation requirements without slowing development momentum. He works closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure traceability from design inputs through verification and production, to ensure the implementation of compliant and technically meaningful design, quality and process controls. Chris is also deeply engaged in the application of automation and AI-enabled tools to improve data clarity, accelerate analysis, and reduce friction in documentation-heavy workflows.
Jake Sliter
Senior Engineer | Manufacturing & NPI & Operational Strategy
-
Jake brings more than 11 years of deep experience in manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, and operational performance for high-volume medical devices. His background spans commercialization ramp-ups, yield and capacity improvement, and financially driven process optimization, with a strong focus on single-use endoscopic technologies.
Prior to joining Lingeman & Smith Medical, Jake held progressive leadership roles at Boston Scientific, supporting multiple scope platforms from late-stage development through full production. His experience includes leading NPI manufacturing efforts, scaling production by an order of magnitude, driving significant yield improvements, and supporting site-to-site product transfers to enable long-term cost and supply strategies. He has also partnered closely with operations and leadership teams on COGS reduction, ROI analysis, and data-driven prioritization of improvement initiatives.
At LSM, Jake helps clients translate development intent into stable, scalable manufacturing processes. His work focuses on process development, manufacturing readiness, production ramp support, yield improvement, test clarity, and aligning engineering decisions with real-world operational and financial realities.
Paul Macy
Senior Engineering Technician | Operations & Test Execution
-
Paul is a senior engineering technician with extensive hands-on experience supporting laboratory operations, test execution, and prototype development for medical device programs. His work ensures that development activities are executed consistently, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.
At Lingeman & Smith Medical, Paul manages day-to-day lab operations, supports complex test setups, and contributes directly to prototype builds and experimental studies. He plays a key role in maintaining test continuity, preparing and executing protocols, and ensuring that data is generated reliably across development efforts.
Paul’s practical expertise and attention to detail allow LSM to move quickly from concept to data while maintaining confidence in execution quality. His role is central to LSM’s ability to stay hands-on, responsive, and technically rigorous throughout client engagements.
How We Work Together
While each team member brings a distinct area of expertise, LSM operates as an integrated group rather than isolated specialists. Projects are staffed intentionally to ensure the right mix of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and hands-on execution, and clients work directly with senior team members throughout an engagement.
For our clients, this means direct access to senior engineers, faster paths to reliable data, and development decisions grounded in real-world manufacturing and regulatory experience. This collaborative and deeply involved approach is core to how we deliver results—and why many clients choose to work with LSM over larger, more fragmented organizations.
